Seattle with Friends
On our second day in Seattle, we invited friends to explore with us. We wanted to eat breakfast at Biscuit Bitch, check out the Chihuly art again, then take the monorail to Pike’s Place for beer! Fun!
When we were last in Seattle, in 2019, we discovered Biscuit Bitch, a quirky breakfast spot with incredible and unforgettable food. We wanted to savor those biscuits again, so we invited T. and J. to join us for breakfast and then explore the attractions in Seattle. We planned to take the monorail to Pike Place, visit a store owned by friends of our friends, and then find a spot for food and beer.
What a surprise after our six-block, uphill walk—Biscuit Bitch now serves only carry-out and has done so since 2020. Luckily, the sun was shining, and the air was warm, so we made the best of it and found the perfect table in the sunshine for breakfast. When the biscuits were ready, they were as amazing as our memories had made them.
Seattle's sidewalks were dotted with “poetry squares.” We had a bit of wordy fun reading various poems and quotes. Sylvia Plath had it right—air and mountains, trees and people.
After breakfast, we walked to Seattle Place. Since we had visited the top of the Space Needle yesterday, we walked around the park while our friends went up to enjoy the view. We had our own view of the Space Needle, but it was a wonky reflection in the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP).
Moon Gates, a bronze abstract sculpture by Doris Chase, interacts with space and form. Multiple sculptures are scattered throughout the grounds, adding a pleasant ambiance to the tourist area.
When our friends were back on Earth, we joined them to walk across the square to Chihuly Glass and Gardens. Yes, Sherpa and I visited Chihuly yesterday, but we didn’t think twice about going two days in a row. “Yes,” we said, and enthusiastically walked through the museum again.
One of the advantages of traveling with friends? They’ll volunteer to take a photograph so you don’t have to struggle with a selfie!

We watched a local glassblower artist take molten glass from the furnace and shape it into a beautiful vase.
Just before the glassblower completed his vase, he snapped off the glass rod from its bottom. This always elicits a collective gasp from the audience, and this demonstration was no exception.

After we completed our Chihuly tour, we took the monorail to Seattle’s city center. The monorail travels between Seattle Center (next to the Space Needle and the Museum of Pop Culture) and Westlake Center (on 5th and Pine Street). The ride covers nearly a mile and takes about 3 minutes, with departures approximately every 10 minutes. From the downtown stop, it was about a ten-minute walk to Pike Place.
Classic Seattle? Pike Place.
And classic Pike Place fare? Fish at the fish market.
It didn’t take us long to find a beer garden overlooking the harbor. We stopped at Old Stove Brewing Co., where both T. and Sherpa ordered flights of beer.
Sherpa ordered an Old Stove Flight, which included the following beers: Old Stove Pilsner, Belgian Blonde, Streaker Citra, Two Pronged Crown IPA, Hell Hawk Pastry Stout, and a Seasonal Sour.
Old Stove Pilsner: One of the better Pilsners I’ve had, a nice, crisp taste. Very similar to Pilsner Urquell. 6/10.
Belgian Blonde: Very clear golden color, a more robust version of Blue Moon. A strong taste of orange and coriander. 5/10.
Streaker Citra Pale Ale: Cloudy gold color. Heavy notes of hops and a crisp, punchy taste. 5.5/10.
Two Pronged Crown IPA: Pale gold color. Light notes of citrus and grapefruit. A celery aroma. Sharp mouthfeel. 6/10.
Hell Hawk Pastry Stout: Pronounced chocolate aroma and taste. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. 7/10.
Seasonal Sour: Tasted, but not rated.
As 2 PM and embarkation time approached, we walked back to Pier 66. Our day and a half in Seattle was just a taste. Seattle deserves a longer visit because it's more like a five-course meal!
Next port: Astoria, Oregon.
Oh my goodness! As soon as I read about Biscuit bitch, I immediately clicked over to Google their menu! Definitely looks like a fun place! Also, what a joy to share fun things with friends! Love the picture of you both!
