In Search of Art
The #1 reason we signed up for a five-month World Cruise. The opportunity to see So. Much. Art.

First, the facts:
Four continents.
25 countries.
150 nights.
77 ports of call, including 15 overnights.
450+ shore excursions plus the option to plan independent, DIY itineraries.
And now for the fun part:
Every port of call, whether a major city, small town, or island, has myriad options. We chose shore excursions to reflect our intention to explore as much art as was feasible. We added DIY excursions for places on our bucket list that Regent didnโt offer.
Knowing there will be changes and missed ports, weโve penciled an amazing conglomeration of artsy events in our calendars. Iโm crossing all my fingers and toes, hoping that weโll get lucky and see a lot, including:
18 Art Museums including 8 National Art Museums (Miami, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Punta Del Este, Sydney, Bali, Singapore, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taipei, Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Anchorage, Vancouver, Victoria)
15 Other Museums (from History, Natural History, Maritime, Archaeological, and Cultural to single-focus museums that highlight Rum, Gems, Carnival Puppets, Beer, Space, and more)
31 cities or towns with significant architectural or cityscape art
21 churches, temples, and mosques filled with religious art
18 excursions featuring โarts and craftsโ to craft schools, research institutes, workshops, folk art markets, and factories.
23 visits to sculpture gardens/urban art exhibits
4 Tours of artistsโ or writersโ homes (Robert Louis Stevenson, Pablo Neruda, Emily Carr, plus Uruguayan artist Carlos Pรกez Vilarรณ)
6 Cultural Events including a Chilean Chinchinero dance, an Opera โ Cinderella โ at the Sydney Opera House, a Vietnamese fan dance with court music known as Nha Nhac, a Vietnamese water puppet show, a Tokyo geisha performance, and Tlingit totem carving.
So much to see. And lots of time!
In writing this Substack, we intend to share as many of our Art and Culture experiences as possible, like a primer on How to Travel the World and Find Art Wherever You Go. It will be even more fun since weโll share our adventures with you!
Which art museum are you going to in Singapore? I wonder if it's the one I went to there! Looks like lots of fun places to visit :-)
That sounds incredible! The adventure of a lifetime. ๐
