A Photo a Day from the 2025 Regent World Cruise--Valparaiso to Papeete
We sailed from Chile on February 16th as the sun was setting, and embarked on a marathon crossing of the South Pacific.
Segment Three: Isles of Wonder
We made three stops in thirteen days—a day on Robinson Crusoe Island, an overnight on Easter Island, and an offshore visit to Pitcairn Island. Then we skipped along and visited four French Polynesian islands in four days before ending this cruise segment in busy Papeete.
Feb 17 Cruising The Pacific Ocean.
Feb 18 Robinson Crusoe Island, Chile 8:00 AM 6:00 PM. We found this small community intriguing and loved our DIY visit.
Feb 19 Cruising The Pacific Ocean. We did crafts with a “cultural ambassador”.
Feb 20 Cruising The Pacific Ocean. Sherpa hosted a beer party or two. He wanted to sample beers from each port, but appreciated the help!
Feb 21 Cruising The Pacific Ocean. We went to the evening entertainment.
Feb 22 Cruising The Pacific Ocean. We attended all the lectures and were especially captivated by those that focused on the upcoming ports of call, the history, culture, and stories.
Feb 23 Easter Island, Chile. 8:00 AM - Overnight. We were thrilled to see land again—and to get off the ship to explore the exotic Easter Island.
Feb 24 Easter Island, Chile. Overnight - 5:00 PM. One of our all-time favorite ports of call!
Feb 25 Cruising The Pacific Ocean. More sailing without anything in sight. No ships, no planes, although we did enjoy the night sky, the stars, the Milky Way, and a multitude of satellites.
Feb 26 Cruising The Pacific Ocean.
Feb 27 Cruising The Pitcairn Islands. We didn’t get off the ship, but the citizens of Pitcairn boarded the Mariner for a day-long visit—a marketplace featuring locally produced arts and crafts and honey, lectures by the island’s ambassador, and even a few songs from the town choir.
Feb 28 Cruising The Pacific Ocean.
Mar 01: Cruising The Pacific Ocean.
Mar 02 Fakarava, French Polynesia 7:00 AM 3:00 PM. After five days of sailing, we once again reached land on the small atoll, Fakarava—the island that has more sharks than humans.
Mar 03 Huahine, French Polynesia 10:00 AM 6:00 PM.
Mar 04 Raiatea, French Polynesia 7:00 AM 10:00 PM.
Mar 05 Moorea, French Polynesia 7:00 AM 4:00 PM.
Mar 06 Papeete (Tahiti), French Polynesia, Overnight to 9:00 PM. The first city we’ve docked in since leaving Valparaiso on February 16th.
Looking back on the World Cruise, this segment was our least favorite, although it included two island stops that were among our favorites—Robinson Crusoe and Easter Island. This was the first time we’d done any trans-oceanic cruising with few stops, and it proved challenging at times. That said, we now know how to manage those long days more effectively and enjoyably.
Next post: Our fourth segment, Pacific Shores and A City of Sails, Papeete, French Polynesia to Sydney, Australia.
Easter Island would have been fascinating!
Loving your blog! Curious about the challenges of transatlantic and your various fixes. Thanks!
